Terms of Service

Chatlek is a free, anonymous, one-on-one text chat service. There are no user accounts and no passwords. When you fill in the short join form (display name, age, gender, avatar, and country), you create a temporary session that acts as your identity for as long as you stay connected. That session, and everything tied to it, exists only for the duration of your visit.

You must be at least 16 years old to use Chatlek. We do not verify age, identity, or any other information you provide. Everything on the join form is self-reported and taken at face value. The age field also has an upper bound of 120, which is simply a sanity limit on the input field, not a suggestion that anyone near that age shouldn't use the service.

A session is created and authenticated using a single token stored in your browser. There is no email address, phone number, or password involved. Display names are not unique and are not verified, so anyone can join using any name. Do not assume the person you are chatting with is who their name suggests.

This is the most important thing to understand about Chatlek: when your session ends, whether because you log out, close the app, or are disconnected long enough for our inactivity timeout to end your session, your profile, every conversation you were part of, and every message you sent or received are permanently and immediately deleted from our database. This is a hard deletion, not a soft delete or an archive. We do not currently keep database backups, so once a session ends, there is no way for you or for us to retrieve your messages or restore your session. Treat every conversation as temporary.

While using Chatlek, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Share illegal content or use the service for illegal purposes
• Impersonate another person with intent to harm or deceive
• Use bots, scripts, or other automated tools to interact with the chat
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits, filters, or other technical safeguards

Because sessions are ephemeral by design, we don't have a traditional account-suspension system. Instead, we may terminate a session at any time and without notice if we believe it is being used to violate these terms. In practice, that simply means that session's data is deleted immediately, the same as any normal logout.

Messages pass through an automated profanity filter before delivery. This filter is a basic, pattern-based safeguard, not comprehensive content moderation, and there is no human review of messages in real time. You can report another user from the conversation menu and choose to attach the specific messages involved; unlike the rest of your conversation history, the reason, any details, and any messages you attach to a report are retained after your session ends so they can be reviewed for safety purposes. This is the one deliberate exception to the deletion described above.

To keep the service usable for everyone, reasonable-use limits apply to actions like creating a session, sending messages, and sending typing indicators. If you send messages or perform other actions unusually quickly, you may be temporarily throttled.

Chatlek is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Since Chatlek does not collect any way to contact you directly, we cannot notify you individually of changes. Please check this page periodically if you want to stay informed.
